Low blood pressure (hypo tension) is the pressure of the blood in the arteries. It occurs when the pressure of the blood is abnormally low. Blood pressure is typically recorded as the systolic pressure (as the heart beats) over the diastolic pressure (time between two beats). A consistent blood pressure reading of 90/60 mm Hg or lower is considered low blood pressure. People with low BP may experience symptoms of dizziness or syncope (fainting) as the blood flow to the brain and other vital organs becomes insufficient.

Blood pressure is basically a measurement of the pressure exerted by blood flow on the walls of the arteries, as it is pumped through the body to the various organs. While high blood pressure is quite well defined, low blood pressure is usually relative and not an absolute. While the normal measurement of blood pressure is 120/80 mm hg this level could vary quite widely among different individuals, and low blood pressure simply refers to the abnormality, where the blood pressure of the person is much lower than the normal. Low blood pressure symptoms include fatigue, headaches, dizziness or light headiness, because of oxygen deprivation. This is because the reduced blood flow causes a poor supply of oxygen to the brain and other vital organs of the body.

The main dangers of low blood pressure stem from an inability of the heart to pump adequate blood to the various organs of the body. As a result the organs cannot function properly and there could be temporary or even permanent damage to the organs. Low blood pressure problems will generally manifest some symptoms.

An impaired blood flow to the coronary arteries, which are responsible for supplying blood to the heart muscles could cause a person to develop chest pain, symptomatic of angina, or the person could even experience a heart attack.

Kidney Damage or Failure: Reduced blood flow to the kidneys can impair their ability to eliminate wastes from the body, consequentially increasing the levels of these wastes and toxins in the blood. This can therefore create still more complications affecting various other organs of the body. This is the main danger of low blood pressure. Very low blood pressure levels or persistently low blood pressure levels could lead to rapid deterioration and failure of the vital organs like the heart, brain, lungs, livers and kidneys, leading to death.

Home remedies for Low blood pressure

The best and the most effective home remedy for treating low blood pressure would be to consume lots of water. This is because dehydration reduces blood volume and leads to a drop in the blood pressure.

Beetroot juice is beneficial for those suffering from low blood pressure. So, have a cup of raw beetroot juice two times a day.

Prepare a cup of strong black coffee and consume this whenever you feel that your blood pressure is dipping.

Put 15-20 gm of Indian Spikenard in 250 ml water and boil it. Now, remove from heat and let it cool down. Have this infusion thrice a day. You can also have 30-40 grains of Indian Spikenard, along with some camphor and cinnamon.

Fill your bathtub with lukewarm water and add one kg of Epsom salt to it. Immerse yourself in the bath for 20 minutes, before going to bed. Take caution not to expose the body to a cold area after this.

In a bowl of water, soak 7 almonds and keep them overnight. Peel them and prepare a paste. Add this paste to lukewarm milk and drink it.

Take a bowl of water and soak 30 raisins in it, overnight. Chew them one by one, on an empty stomach, in the morning and have water.

Holy basil works effectively in curing low blood pressure. Take about 15 holy basil leaves and crush them. Filter the mixture with the help of a muslin cloth. Have this filtered mixture, along with a tsp of honey, on an empty stomach.

Include salt, asafetida and fruits in your diet. All these are beneficial in restoring the blood pressure level.

Foods rich in proteins, vitamin C and vitamin B are effective in treating low blood pressure.

Exercises, light walking, swimming and cycling are beneficial in regulating the blood pressure level.
